Year 6O

Welcome to 6O’s class page!

We are a class of 24 children consisting of many different first languages.  Our diversity is something that we are immensely proud of and we enjoy celebrating our differences and sharing our experiences. It is fantastic that we are able to learn so much about a range of cultures and beliefs from each other. We are a resilient bunch and are ready and excited for the year ahead!

We are helped with our learning each day by our year 6 TAs: Mr Telfer, Mrs Latimer and Mrs Malone.

We begin our school day with a focused activity/ reading our own books and finish with a read of our class novel. In between, we have a busy day of exciting learning through engaging and creative activities. We display examples of our work on our Twitter page @kensingprimary Make sure that you look out for our latest tweets #6O

In year 6, there is a clear expectation that children read at least 5 times a week. We understand that weekends are a busy time for families, however a little amount of reading every day, adds up to a lot! Children should be encouraged at home to write into their reading diaries when they have read. Examples of comments to be made: what emotions the character may be feeling; a prediction of what could happen next; how the setting has
been described by the author and questions they would ask the characters in order to find out information.

Homework will be set on a Friday, and is due the following Friday. Homework that will be set will include a range of different activities that link to our learning from the week. Additionally, weekly spellings will be given with a test given the following Friday. Your children have been sent their TT Rockstars, Spelling Shed and Reading Plus log-ins, to
access from home. Children are expected to log-in regularly and practise developing these key skills (multiplication knowledge, spelling and reading comprehension and fluency). As mentioned, daily reading is a part of set homework.

P.E lessons are on a Thursday. Children are to wear their P.E uniform to school. They will remain in their P.E kit for the duration of the school day. They can wear jogging bottoms/leggings, and their school jumper (weather depending).

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss any questions that you may have. Whilst we cannot meet in person due to COVID 19, appointments for telephone conversations can be made via the school office.
