Welcome to 2O’s class page!

We are a class of 21 children consisting of many different first languages.  Our diversity is something that we are immensely proud of and we enjoy celebrating our differences and sharing our experiences. It is fantastic that we are able to learn so much about a range of cultures and beliefs from each other. We are a resilient bunch and are ready and excited for the year ahead!

We are helped with our learning each day by our year 2 TAs: Mrs Vallance, Miss Parry, Miss Bradley and Mrs Milton

We begin our school day with a focused activity and finish with a read of a story. In between, we have a busy day of exciting learning through engaging and creative activities. We display examples of our work on our Twitter page @kensingprimary

Make sure that you look out for our latest tweets #2O

Reading

In year 2, there is a clear expectation that children read at least 4 times a week. We understand that weekends are a busy time for families, however a little amount of reading every day, adds up to a lot! Adults at home should try to record when children have read using their Reading Record Book.

Examples of comments to be made: what emotions the character may be feeling; a prediction of what could happen next; how the setting has been described by the author and questions they would ask the characters in order to find out information.

Homework

Homework will be set on a Friday, and is due the following Friday. Homework that will be set will include a range of different activities that link to our learning from the week. Additionally, weekly spellings will be given with a test given the following Friday. Your children will have their TTRockstars, Numbots and Spelling Shed passwords in their Reading Records in order to access these learning platforms from home. Children are expected to log-in regularly and practise developing these key skills (multiplication knowledge, number bonds and spelling). As mentioned, daily reading is a part of set homework and we will send phonics homework with children based on the sounds we have been learning/ reviewing during the week.

P.E

P.E lessons are on a Monday. Children are to bring their P.E uniform to school. They can wear black jogging bottoms/leggings/ shorts, a white t-shirt and their school jumper (weather depending).

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss any questions that you may have.

I’m so happy that I get to see everyone at the classroom door again!
